Back to the real world

Damn. I can't believe it, but my Jack is back to regular school. We made it official on the 14th- an IEP meeting adjusting the dates of his IEP (which was inactive when I pulled him out of the district), and showing that he now has a "change of placement" which requires transportation. So he gets to take the bus this year. (He's very excited about that!).

We took a private tour of the school last Monday, with the principal, general ed. teacher, and the new Intervention Specialist. (I learned that the new "teacher", wasn't the teacher. Just the IS). I had to cringe because when we first got to the school for the tour, Jack was sort of grouchy- didn't say much, gave short answers, etc. When the principal assured us that he would be a bus rider- and I made sure he heard that - he changed his attitude real quick. He was still somewhat reserved, and held my arm much of the time, but he asked questions and generally was more communicative. Jack had been bummed that his teacher did not turn out to be the male he wanted, but perked up when he found out that his actual teacher is married to that guy. LOL She also shares my first name. Then on Friday, there was a Welcome Back to School event, where he dropped off his school supplies, meet his classmates, and had some Italian Ice on the playground. He didn't care much for the teacher's seating chart- he's stuck between two girls- but he does have a boy sitting directly across from him, so that seemed to make things better.

Because the school is much farther away then our home school, he has to leave really early in the morning. He's awake before anyone else, gets some quiet time, and leaves before his sister even wakes up for Middle School. This is really a good thing, because 1.) they won't have the opportunity to fight and start the day off on the wrong foot, and 2.) I get to spend time with them individually. :)

As Savannah gets herself ready for school (her first day as a Middle Schooler!), I hope and pray that Jack got to school safely, and that he has a positive day. He's the new kid, and will have some adjusting to do. I have started him on some supplements that hopefully will help his behavior, to take along with the Intuniv he's still on. (I'm starting him on Ultimate Flora Kids Probiotic, as well as Source Naturals Attentive Child. (I think I want to see how the Magnesium, Zinc, and B-6 help his mood and focus at school). If the Attentive Child doesn't end up helping at all (and I think I did notice a difference yesterday, being his first day to take it), then I am giving serious consideration to On Task.

I'm sure I have a million other things on my mind.. but I want to make sure Savannah is all set to go. :)
