There were several days this week where Jack had an over reaction to something that happened. Either a paper he needed was missing (and the teacher reminded him that he didn't have it because he got mad and ripped the last one up).. or he didn't like the assignment (it's almost always writing, but is sometimes Math related). He did some yelling, he did the ding-dong ditch game, he threw things.. but then he also chose to put his head down and avoid altogether. He often chose staying in the Intervention Specialist's room- maybe to avoid a situation happening, but maybe not. I don't know if that really enters his mind. He's not exactly a planner, and certainly wouldn't admit that he may do something "bad". He had moments where he worked really hard, but also had plenty of moments where he completely gave up and shut down and wouldn't budge. He said negative comments to his peers more than he normally would. He also failed to talk about some things that would normally make him very excited- a play date with his friend last weekend, or the party his old school pal is having this weekend. As the IS put it, "he seems more depressed. He seems to have lost his 'drive'". He often complains about school, but this week it wasn't just the complaining. He was just not engaging. :(
He is now off of the Intuniv. This means he is only one one medication- the Elavil. I still have my doubts about doubling up his dose so quickly, from 20mg to 40mg. I know his blood work suggested the levels in his body were "low", but wouldn't 30 have been the next logical step up? Now, if the doctor thinks it's going well, she'll prescribe the 25mg pills. So while he doesn't seem to be tolerating this 40mg dose (or certainly doesn't seem to be helped by it), we're going to bump him up to 50mg?
He is still pretty much sleeping through the night, though still not wanting to wake up on school days. The Husband seems irritated that I am so critical of every medicine and every dose- especially since 1.) nothing will probably do what we want it to do, and 2.) we have to give each medication a fair amount of time to "work" before switching it up again. Then 3.) we shouldn't be telling the Dr. what to prescribe. LOL Funny thing is that he's probably as anti-medication as I am, but also wants me to suggest that we keep Jack on the Intuniv. Mind. Boggled.
It's hard to believe we're into March now. In 3 months, we'll be out of school for summer break. It's amazing how time flies. We've gotten this far into a new school year, in a new school. No major improvements have been made, I believe things are actually worse then they were before with Jack, and the adults are still just as clueless. Yes, that includes me.
